Mclaren MP4-12C: The Capsule of Speed

The Mclaren MP4-12C, ok  so everybody’s first question how does it compare with Ferrari 458. Having been driving the Ferrari 458 a lot for the past month, she is still the benchmark of Super Car no doubt. I had to be fair and honest when I came to the Mclaren, really start with a fresh page. Of course expectation were high as the last Mclaren was in a league of its own with the F1. MP4-12C is designed with a slight different concept in mind, a Super Car with user friendliness and won’t be a pain for daily (or in most cases weekly) use.

On the out set from the concept drawings the car seems to be focus in the functional direction, where aerodynamic and engineering dictates the main focus of the exterior design. Which is where the problem lies, there is absolutely nothing “wrong” with the car, but she just seem so CAD (computer aided design). I seriously like the shape fast flowing shape, the scissors doors and even more stunning sitting still with them opened, just like an eagle spreading its wings. The discrete, hyper urban tail lights and exhaust exits then how it integrates seamlessly with the hydraulic spoiler. Everything is so precise and seamlessly purposeful.

First thing first, as a frequent used car, it does have some annoying issues, the “slide to unlock” door, and it’s not just me, the dealer did advise on how to “more easily” get the door opening mechanism right with slide and pause at the end of the motion etc. That didn’t really work, the hit rate is still around 30%, and truth be told it’s fancy, but do we really need more trouble with opening the door and maybe considering sometimes the weather is not always kind. More below par features like some of the interior touch are less than luxury as expected in a car in this price range, the sound system seems rather incompetent. The media system is fancy, but only to find the system is rather “simple” comparing to even typical German sedans, system from the likes of Audi, Mercedes, BMW etc. Offers way more features and important information to the driver. So it seems initially it does not make the cut for the daily super car that we expect this century.

But as a super car to drive it’s simply epic…!!! The engineers in Woking simply got the formula for the dynamics so RIGHT. The way this car accelerates, brakes and ride through corners is just an absolute eye opener. Some basic facts 3.8 V8 Turbo, pumping out 600hp and 650Nm of torque, 4WD, fully independent suspension, monocoque chassis. These features don’t seem so intriguing in words, but how the Mclaren team engineered then re-engineered and scrutinized the performance to squeeze out the maximum performance and dynamics is nothing short of a miracle. How this MP4-12C can be so brimming fast and yet so comfortable just makes this car so brilliant. Blasting down highways, taking it through sweeping corners is just such a calming act. Seriously a capsule of speed.

Last question, which one? The 458 or MP4-12C? Both are brilliant in their own right, the MP4-12C is a monster is precision engineering in dynamics and cutting the laws of physics, the 458 is just a work of art in every sense, it’s made with passion and soul, and it connects you to your heart within!

邁凱輪MP4-12C,每個人的第一個問題是MP4-12C和法拉利458的比較。過去的一個月我時常駕駛法拉利458,她仍毫無疑問是超級跑車的標杆。當我來到邁凱輪,真正開始了新的一頁。當然期望非常高,因為之前邁凱輪F1也是一台非凡的超級跑車。 MP4-12C的設計概念略有不同,一台真正可日常駕駛的超級跑車。

從概念,MP4-12c是集中于它功能上,空氣動力學和工程規定已大至定下外觀設計的主要焦點。這就是問題所在,它絕對是沒有什麼“錯誤”,但它顯得如此CAD(計算機輔助設計)。我也很喜歡它流線的形態,它的剪刀門即使停下來只把門打開這型態也是這麼驚人,就像一隻雄鷹張開翅​​膀。超前衛的尾燈和雙出排氣,與液壓擾流尾翼做成完美結合。絕妙,精確。

作為一台日常駕駛的超級跑車,它確實有一些煩人的的問題,“Slide to Unlock”的車門,不只是我,就算是經銷商教了我們這秘訣我們也覺得這是不方便,命中率仍然是30%左右,說實話開門真的不需要更多的麻煩。其他如內龐方面也不見得豪華,在這個價格範圍內的超級跑車,音響系統似乎相當無能。媒體系統是花哨,民用品牌如奧迪,奔馳,寶馬等的系統比這實用很多。如此看來它不太悉合做一台日常駕駛的超級跑車。

但作為一台專注速度的超級跑車他的確是非凡……!!在英國Woking的工程師把物理和動力學完全改寫。這車的剎車,過彎,加速是多麼大開眼界。3.8 V8渦輪增壓引擎,泵出600HP和650NM的扭矩,四輪驅動,完全獨立的懸掛,硬殼式底盤。書面上這些數字已經不是天方夜談,但邁凱輪的設計團隊如何將這些性能,擠壓出來令他有如此厲害的性能簡直是一個奇蹟。MP4-12C能夠如此舒適還可以以非比沉常的速度在路面上行走,只是非常驚人。直爆公路,掃過長灣,就是這樣輕易的事情。

最後一個問題, 458或MP4-12C?兩者也有自己的長處,在的MP4-12C是一台打破物理規律的怪物。458是一台超凡藝術型,夾帶無限的激情和靈魂,連繫你的心!

Rookie outguns veteran, Pan Delta Super Racing Festival Circuit Hero Two

At 1:15pm on 18 March, the most civilian race in the Pan Delta Super Racing Festival, Circuit Hero Two, commences. 34 cars in various classes that are familiar to the casual spectator, provides a connection between motorsport and everyday road driving. The interesting advertising on the cars, the friends and family members in the grandstands, all demonstrates the fact that this is a race that welcomes new comers.

Pole sitter is Jerome Badaraco in a Honda CL7, entered in the 2000cc class. His best lap yesterday was 1:51.928. Second on the grid is Gary Sham in a Honda DC5. He is the fastest in the 2000A class. “Baldy” He Wei-Hang is fourth behind Wong Ka-Hong. But Wong Ka-Hong’s car is in the N2000 class while He Wei-Hang’s car is in the open class. The top four are all able to lap in 1:55s, although not in the same group, they are competitive enough to fight for every corner.

As the race starts, Badaraco makes a clean getaway. He moves to the right to protect his position. But Wong Ka-Hong also makes a good start and goes the other way to cut inside of Badaraco. The rest of the enormous field funnel through the first corner.

At turn 3, Wong Ka-Hong is holding on to his lead. But Badaraco is clearly faster on the straight and he is able to pull alongside Wong. Wong though manages to protect the corner.

At the end of lap 1, Badaraco uses his superior corner exit speed to pass Wong Ka-Hong on the main straight. No. 3 He Wei-Hang passes Wong Wan-Lung on lap 2 and is now up to third place. Badaraco then sets a 1:53s best lap.

On lap 3, all the race cars have falled into their own groups of battle, those in front, although not in the same class, are battling hard for track positions. In the middle of lap 3, He Wei-Hang outbrakes Wong Ka-Hong into a corner and begins to close in on Badaraco. But the latter’s superior performance makes that a very tall order. Baldy though, racing in front of his legion of fans, can never give up. On lap 4, no. 16 Gary Sham passes Wong Ka-Hong for third place. The top 3 are all within 3 seconds of each other. The race is far from over.

On lap 6, Badaraco extends his lead to over 5 seconds. At this moment, at turn 4, no. 16 Gary Sham has a coming together with no. 38, female driver Wu Mu-Lian. Wu’s car spins around and hits the rear wheel on Gary Sham’s left side. His car then somersaults for one and a half times and lands on its roof in the grass area near turn 5. This was a big accident but Gary Sham seems to be fine. He gets out of the car and move to the safe zone before the marshals arrive. As the position of the wreck is dangerous, the race officials decides to deploy the safety car.

The safety car bunches up the field but as the time need to clear the accident area is lengthy, there would not be much race distance left. At the end of lap 8, the safety car returns to the pitlane and the race re-starts. Badaraco immediately pulls out a lead. No. 2 Ko Shi-Chun overtakes Wong Ka-Hong down at turn 1 and gets himself up to second.

In the end Jerome Badaraco wins the first race of Circuit Hero Two in 2012. Wong Ka-Hong finishes second and Wei Zhao-Yin finishes third.

新人压老手上演惊险翻车 泛珠三角超级赛车节赛道英雄贰

3月18日下午1:15分,泛珠三角超级赛车级最亲民的赛事——赛道英雄贰组别的比赛在珠海赛道隆重上演。这个相对于赛道英雄壹更为亲民、参与性更高的比赛,一直是泛珠赛事和车迷联系的最直接纽带。34台各类分组赛车的数量、赛车车身上光怪陆离的广告以及看台上强大的亲友团和粉丝团,无不体现实出这个比赛植根车迷的强大亲和力。

根据昨天的排位赛,排在杆位的是澳籍葡裔车手巴达华高,他驾驶的是CL7赛车参加2000排量无限改装组的比赛,他昨天的最快单圈达到了1:51.928,已经堪比国内最高级别房车赛的最快圈速。排在第二的是驾驶DC5的岑基堂,他同样是2000A组别的车手。从赛道英雄成长起来的著名车手何伟航紧跟着黄家康,位列第四。不过黄家康的赛车属于N2000,而何伟航的思域没有2000的排量,但属于A组的无限改装。圈速上看,第二到第四的车手都在1:55左右,虽然不属于同一个组别,但为了全场的荣誉,他们之间的竞争必定会非常激烈。

暖胎圈之后,比赛开始。巴达华高起步非常好,一起步就向左切线发车,挡住了后面赛车超车的路线。不过后面的黄家康也表现出色,从右边反向切弯超越了巴达高华。后面的赛车也相应散开,寻找超车的机会,整个赛道正面看去,满是赛车铺面而来,场面非常壮观。3号弯,黄家康已经稳定住了自己的位置,不过在直道上,巴达高华的赛车明显更快,好几次和黄家康齐头并进。不过黄家康在赛车线路上,要想超越并不是那么容易的事。

第一圈完成,巴达华高利用出弯的速度优势,在直道前段超越了黄家康。后面赛车的位置也在不断的发生变化,3号何伟航在第二圈开头超越了1号黄云龙,挤进前三。此时排在第一的巴达华高已经将圈速提高到了1:53.

第三圈,各个组别赛车已经开始形成各自的集团,前面几台快车虽然组别不同,但还在相互超越。第三圈中段,何伟航利用弯道刹车超越了黄家康,开始追近巴达华高,不过后者绝对的速度优势让这个努力变得相当困难。但著名的光头佬在数万观众面前,怎么可能放弃呢?第四圈,16号赛车岑基堂超越了黄家康,回归第三的位置。前三台赛车之间的差距都在3秒左右,还有机会。

第六圈,巴达华高的领先优势已经达到了5秒多,但它还没有刷新排位的最快单圈。就在这个时候,4号弯,16号赛车岑基堂在弯中和前面的38赛车吴幕莲发生轻微碰撞,吴幕莲的赛车在赛道中极速旋转之后撞上了岑基堂的车尾左后轮,正在过左弯的岑基堂赛车立刻被撞飞并翻滚一周半,车顶着地落在了5号弯内的草地和砂石减速带之间。这是一次惊险的翻车,不过看来岑基堂没有受伤,在工作人员到来之前就已经独立下车走到安全范围。由于位置比较危险,赛会出动了安全车。第一次参加赛道英雄的比赛,女车手吴幕莲就遭遇这样惊险的状况,不知道比赛结束后她会有什么样的感想。

安全车拉近了前面几台车之间的距离,不过因为这次事故清理起来相当麻烦,所以留给后面的赛车机会不多了。第八圈结束,安全车回到维修区,比赛重新开始。巴达华高立刻和后面的赛车拉开距离,2号高士俊在一号弯前切内弯超越了黄家康,上升到了第二的位置。他们之间在超车过程中发生了轻微的碰撞,好在没有再出大的状况。

最后,巴达华高成功的拿到了今年泛珠赛道英雄贰的第一座冠军奖杯,黄家康全场第二,12号蔚超音全场第三。
